Sweet, Stylish Dreams

I'm obsessed with bedrooms at the moment because I'm in the process of redecorating mine. I want my bedroom to be soft and glamourous and a place to read and surrender to sweet slumber (a bit hard with a 2.5 year old screeching through it chasing the dog!).

Glamourous Girl

The 90's is one of my favourite fashion eras. It was the age of glamour and supermodels and Linda Evangelista was the leader of the fashion pack. She ruled the magazines and runways for more than a decade and has been dubbed THE best fashion model of her era. She could morph into anyone in the click of a shutter and together with iconic fashion photographer Steven Meisel created some of the most iconic fashion images of all time. This one, which appeared in Allure Magazine, is one of my all-time glamour favourites and is posted on my office wall. Glamour personified.

Style Icon - Catherine Martin

When I heard that Catherine Martin was guest editing the May/June edition of Vogue Living I knew that it was going to be an edition not to miss - I wasn't wrong. Can anyone be THAT stylish and talented? Well yes, just pore over the mag and you'll soon see that Catherine Martin justifies her position as a 'style icon'. Breathless with stylish joy I have been since my purchase. Imagine the lucky people who get to share in her creativity and artistry.

Fashion Moments

Do you remember this classic fashion moment? This January 1990 Vogue cover by Peter Lindbergh caused fashion hysteria and reportedly made the edition one of the highest selling in the magazine’s history. It heralded the decade of the supermodel and catapulted these 5 girls into super stardom. (I clearly remember trampling over many bodies in my rush to buy this magazine and in fact I still have it - yes that proves I am a slave to fashion and magazine addict). Linda, Naomi, Tatjana, Christy and Cindy – they were part of a group of girls who made more headlines and money than most other models in history. (Claudia hadn’t made it yet). They all remain style icons to this day and are still gracing covers and the pages of magazines around the world.

Style Icon

Renee Perle was a Romanian-born model living in Paris in the early 1930's. Her lover was the famous French photographer Jacques-Henri Lartigue who was so enchanted with her beauty and timeless sense of style that he devoted 2 years to compile a series of photographic work that is sought after by collectors to this day. This photo was taken in Biarritz in 1930 and demonstrates not only Lartigue’s ability to capture the essence and natural beauty of his subject, but shows that Renee had a sense of style and individuality that has transcended time and fashion.

Fashionable Art

I would love to be able to draw and paint. The freedom to express your thoughts and desires on paper must surely be a liberating gift. (I can’t even draw decent stick figures).
One of my great loves is fashion illustration and amongst my favourites illustrators, that include David Downton, Izak, and Wai, is Michel Canetti.
After a career spanning more than 20 years, Michel Canetti is one of the world’s most successful fashion and advertising illustrators. Michel, who has been living in Melbourne since 1997, was born in Paris and graduated from the Sorbonne with a bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design and a Masters in painting restoration.
With a career that started with set design for Club Med, Michel Canetti has gone on to work for some of the most prestigious companies in the world including Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Givenchy, De Beers, Guerlain and major fashion publications such as Vogue and Elle. Advertising clients include Air France, Lux, Renault, Mercedes and Perrier.
In recent years, Michel has created images for Myer, Melbourne Fashion Week Victoria Harbour, and designed the poster for the Australian production of Dusty the musical.
Michel Canetti is a master at creating high fashion images that are sophisticated and elegant and his ability to capture femininity and beauty in minimalist style is unsurpassed.
If you appreciate and enjoy the art of fashion illustration, then you’ll certainly become a fan of Michel Canetti. If you’re in Melbourne in the near future, the Thierry B Gallery in Melbourne is currently exhibiting a collection of Michel Canetti canvases as part of the Art Melbourne 07 festival, or if you can’t make it personally, visit his website at www. michelcanetti.com
